Product Description
Sting was an Elven shortsword made in Gondolin during the First Age, along with Glamdring and Orcrist.
Thought of only as a dagger by the Elves, it was a perfect sword for hobbits, and so became the weapon of Bilbo Baggins, and later Frodo Baggins, after it was found in a troll cave by Gandalf and company. It was used by Bilbo during The Hobbit events, and later Frodo in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
After the events of The Hobbit, Bilbo had the Sting Sword engraved with Sindarin text ‘Maegnas aen estar nin dagnir in yngyl im’ – translated into English this means “Sting is my name; I am the spider’s bane.”
As with all Elven made swords, Sting “shone with a cold light, if any Orcs were near at hand.”
