Brass Basket-Hilted Broadsword
The ‘basket hilt’ is a type of Scottish sword that is defined by the ornate basket shaped guard that protects the hand. This style of sword was used as a military weapon in the early 17th century, but over time it became more widely used in duel-like combat, similar to the its cousin the rapier.
Donald McBane, possibly Scotland’s most talented fencing master of the 18th Century, wrote a book titled The Expert Swordsman’s Companion (1728), which centered around this style of sword.
This replica basket-hilted broadsword is finished with a brass basket and comes with a scabbard. It is a real piece of Scottish History.
