Known as the ‘spada da lato’, the sidesword became popular in the late 16th century as a precursor to the rapier. Developed amongst Italian nobility, these thinner blades were often meant for status and show during ceremonies and parades on the hips of military officials and the very wealthy.
This sword has a stainless steel blade with a brass-plated hilt.
